Character Summary

August doesn't go by Bundy. To him, he's still August Pope--Gus, for short--despite his newfound knowledge of his lineage. He refuses to accept that monster into his realm of reality. As far as he's concerned, there is no such thing as Ted Bundy. It's easy to say, right? However, it's harder to truly run from when the demon that drove his father to kill is now happily residing inside of him, feeding off the misery he carries with him. It's safe to say that August is at a turning point in his life. Now that he knows that he's Bundy's son, Syn has been kicking his plan in gear, and stage one is already underway.

Regardless of his demon's wicked ways, August has managed to remain a fairly decent person. He gets moments when he feels the urge to inflict some type of pain on someone else, but he immediately knows that it's Syn trying to nudge him towards insanity. He's very repressed and disciplined because he's too afraid to lose control of his demon, though he's not completely sure if he had any control in the first place. Nevertheless, August finds comfort in doing good deeds to make up for the fact that a part of him thinks he was born evil. To compensate for his lack of confidence in his purity, he takes pride in being a detective for Legion. His father may be a killer, but he's a hero--for now.
The Tower Tier 1. Ascension to "THE SHAKEN"

The shaken had to change their view on something they have believed into for a long time now. They have lost or gained one of the core principles in their life. They might have learned the truth or were corrupted. Another possibility: they recently lost faith, or gained it.

You feel new possibilities within you. The dominions combustion, blood, biomancy, and dust are now augmented. Your character may show unusual command of those dominions for their mastery.
Dominion 1

Mastery: Lesser

The ability to manipulate attraction, whether platonic, physical or romantic, in other people towards yourself. More persuasive speaking, more successful seduction, and a great deal of ability to control the attention of and fill a room. Pheromones work passively, so you can’t turn this dominion off.

Control Based: Better control of how you affect someone.

Dominion 2

Mastery: Lesser

The ability to manipulate reflections and see deeper truths in reflections.

Power Based: The easier it is to manipulate reflections and cause others to see reflections rather than true representations of life.

Dominion 3

Mastery: Proficient

Increased senses. You can touch, taste, see, hear, and feel things at a level unrecognized for any other human or demon.

Power Based: You can sense things at an amazing level, but only when you actually attempt to, and for a short amount of time, which gets longer and more frequent as the level increases.

Dominion 4

Mastery: Major

The ability to turn things you touch to gold.

Control Based: The easier it is to avoid turning your loved ones into gold when you touch them. It typically takes a longer time of contact to turn something into gold (especially people), due to the amount of repression it takes to control the ability.

Dominion 5

Mastery: Proficient

The ability to manipulate living tissue; dependent on one’s intent, this skill can be used to harm or heal on a near molecular level.

Power Based: You can obstruct the healing process, natural or otherwise, as well as even send a healing process into reverse, deteriorating your victim slowly. Time and amount of contact you need to begin this process is based on your mastery level.

Dominion 6

Mastery: Minor

The reanimation of the dead. Anything living that has since died can be reanimated, depending on how strong the dominion is, how long the thing has been dead, and how large it is. The thing reanimated cannot truly think, but can follow orders, sometimes even after the necromancer has died. Necromancy has limits: the reanimated thing will only stay reanimated for a set length of time depending on the mastery level.

Control Based: Deceased life forms stay reanimated for longer.

Character In-Depth

So, what's it like being the son of an infamous, ruthless psychopath? Well, August doesn't really know. In fact, he recently found out that Ted Bundy is his father, and that Bundy is actually his last name, not Pope. He can thank his mother for his years of ignorance. After his father was executed while August was merely a toddler, his mother took him away from the cameras, the reporters, and all the judgment. She wanted him to be normal, but she always feared that Gus would inherit Bundy's demons. So, she changed his surname to Pope, to keep the media off their trail, and start over. For most of his formative years, nothing was out of the ordinary. August's demon hadn't manifested, nor spoken a word to the young man. He was classified as a primal demon for a few years since he wasn't much of a communicator.

Little did they know that Syn was very capable of speaking up, he simply chose not to. He wanted to watch that innocence flourish and take root, just so he can savor when it all withers around this unsuspecting soul. Syn spend so long living inside of August's psych; reveling in the irony that he plans to make August follow in daddy's footsteps. All in due time.

The time came far too quickly. When August was reaching the pique of puberty, Syn's presence started to reveal itself in him. It was a suffocating energy that overwhelmed him to the point of needing to gather his bearings in the bathroom during homeroom or panic attacks at lunch. Syn was a lot of demon for him, and he still is to this day. Now that August is an adult, Syn is more talkative; maybe even a little too much. August has a hard time decerning if Syn is being genuine or trying to manipulate him. He doesn't have the best track record for honesty, but when Syn brought up his father, he had been more than skeptical. He had been afraid because there was something deep in his bones that was telling him to follow up on Syn's outrageous story about Ted Bundy being his birth father.

There isn't enough research in the world that could have satisfied his need to know. No DNA to make the notion concrete, no witnesses of his birth, no one to confirm this story. No one, but his mother...and Syn, of course. For months, Syn plagued August with hellish nightmares, urging him to look into the Ted Bundy trail by forcing him to see through his "father's" eyes. And he did. Night after night, scream after scream, August watched himself mutilate so many people...after a while though, they were no longer people to him...they were just bodies. And that's when he feared he may be losing his sense of empathy; each gruesome nightmare slowing eating away at his humanity just like Syn wanted.

Finally, he took time off of the job to get his head straight and find the truth. He visited his mother, easing his way to a confession. However, the moment he said Bundy, her face went white...and he knew.

Demon Information

Syn has been the devil on many shoulders for many, many centuries. This demon feeds off the negative energy of his hosts; always lurking in the shadows of his host's mind and waiting to take the opportunity to make them doubt their reality. He blurs the lines between what he and his host are thinking, slowly but surely, driving them closer and closer towards insanity. It's all a game to him, really. How long will it take him to break the host? How far can he push? What are they really capable of when under just the right circumstances. His gravelly voice lingers in the depths of the mind, his tone is never truly malicious, but his snaky tongue is enough to convince a man of God that he's killing for a cause, and not for the sheer lust of it. Syn is the epitome of a leech; draining the fight out of his host until all he can do is comply to the madness.

From host to host, Syn has ended his time with them in blood. And like a parasite, he finds the purest of souls just to see if he can corrupt them to feed his bloodlust. Ted Bundy--the infamous serial killer--was only one of the many to have been pushed into the darkness that Syn creates. Now, Syn is sinking his claws into fresher meat--August Bundy...Ted Bundy's son.

Being the tricky, nefarious demon that he is, Syn prefers to manifest rarely. He's more of a voice and a weight inside of Gus's head, but on the off chance that he does show himself, he does it in ways that will most disturb his host. Sometimes, he'll look like Gus's mother, mimicking her mannerisms to perfection since he had so much time to study her. Other times, he'll even make himself look like a spitting image of August, but with solid black eyes boring into the man, showing him what he will become. However, recently Syn has taken up a new form--it's time for Gus to say hi to daddy.
